Lavant Cricket Club

Welcome

We welcome players over 16 to come and join Lavant Cricket Club. Our home ground is the picturesque village green adjacent to Lavant Memorial Hall in East Lavant just to the north of Chichester in West Sussex. We play friendly but competitive cricket matches in the Chichester area during the summer weekends. The matches are played with the side batting first for two and half hours, then tea followed by one hour and a final 20 overs for the side batting second. A few matches are played over 40 overs for each side. Very occasionally we play T20 matches on a weekday evening. We have a small pavilion where the scrumptious teas are prepared and here are five good reasons to play for LCC.

Who we are

If you’d like to join our cricket club to play at lovely rural Hampshire and West Sussex grounds then please get in touch with the secretary or fill in the contact form. We charge a small match fee for each player and once you’ve played a few games you’ll be asked to join the club by paying a membership fee. The fees are set by the AGM which takes place in February at the Lavant Memorial Hall and the club’s officers are elected for the coming season.

We arrange a club presentation dinner in the middle of November where we can all get together to reminisce about the previous season and look forward to the coming matches. Awards are presented by the chairman to those players who performed well for the club during the previous season. The most coveted award, is of course, The Duck Trophy, for the batsman who failed to trouble the scorers the most times during the season. We are very fortunate to have an excellent scorer who comes to most of the matches and undertakes the mammoth task of completing the batting and bowling averages for all the players at the end of the season. There is an annual snooker tournament at the Southbourne Club which is keenly contested.

Cricket has been played at Lavant for centuries as shown by the article on our History page so come and join us to continue the tradition.
